Software for connected devices and constrained hardware
We write the application software that runs on hardware other people ship: televisions and set-top boxes, energy systems, point-of-sale and kiosk machines, installations.
The constraints are the job. Limited memory and compute, a service life measured in years rather than release cycles, and no convenient reboot when something goes wrong in somebody's living room.
Televisions and set-top boxes
For Telia we build a JavaScript application for televisions and set-top boxes, used daily by Telia TV customers across Estonia. A large codebase running under tight memory and compute constraints, with no room to fail quietly.
- 180K+ customers
- TVs & set-top boxes
- Daily use
Where the habit comes from
In 2012 we took on our first real challenge: the world's first STB-free IPTV solution built with web technologies alone. Then we ported the same code onto low-end set-top boxes, which taught us how to write a large codebase for a machine with almost nothing in it — used by hundreds of thousands of people a day.
Fourteen years later that is still the discipline. Tight constraints, unforgiving hardware, and an audience that notices immediately when something breaks.
Energy systems
MarkeDroid is a smart energy management platform for solar and battery systems. We built the web and mobile applications for monitoring, controlling and optimising connected energy assets.
- Live in 12 European countries
- Web & mobile
Point of sale, kiosk and installations
Point-of-sale and kiosk systems, robotics prototypes, museum installations. Machines that run unattended, in public, for a long time.
What we do, and what we do not
We build application software for connected and constrained hardware, plus the platforms and integrations behind it. Firmware, board bring-up and driver development are separate disciplines, and we don't present them as ours.
